We’re passionate about safe, healthy homes, which is why we’re committed to the Edgehire4homes “Healthy Home” drying standard. As part of that commitment, it’s vital to look beyond simple drying. When water enters a home, it’s rarely just “clean” water, making HEPA-grade filtration—which transforms simple air movers into remediation-grade tools—a non-negotiable part of water damage restoration.
But even with a powerful H13 HEPA filter capturing 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, one major issue often remains: the smell. That musty, “earthy” odour isn’t just unpleasant; it’s a gas, and HEPA filters can’t stop gases.
This is where the Activated Carbon Filter becomes indispensable.
Activated carbon is the second stage in our Heylo HD1000 units (discussing discussion context). Unlike the G4 Pre-Filter which captures large dust bunnies and carpet fibres, or the HEPA filter which traps microscopic particles, activated carbon doesn’t use a fine mesh. Instead, it uses a bed of incredibly porous carbon (discussing discussion context). Through a process called adsorption, it chemically binds with odour-causing gases.
Think of it as a microscopic, gas-eating sponge for your air.
Odour Neutralisation: It directly captures the gases responsible for the distinct, unpleasant “musty” flood smell, chemically absorbing it rather than just masking it with fragrances.
VOC Removal: It is designed to capture Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), as well as smoke and other gases, ensuring the air is chemically clean, not just visibly so.
Creates a Fresh Environment: By ensuring the home smells fresh as well as looks dry, it provides immediate relief and a higher quality living environment during the restoration process (discussing discussion context).
Total Remediation Control: In your “Edgehire4homes Air Quality Bundle” of a dehumidifier, high-velocity fans, and a HEPA air scrubber, the carbon filter is the critical component that addresses the often-overwhelming smell of flood damage, ensuring a comprehensive, “medical-grade” approach (discussing discussion context).
| Feature | Standard Hire Shops | Edgehire4homes Standard |
| Filtration Power | Basic foam or G3 dust filters. | 3-Stage Medical Grade (G4 + Carbon + H13 HEPA). |
| Odour Control | None (smell remains after drying). | Activated Carbon Adsorption to kill “flood smells.” |
| Microscopic Safety | Blows dust and spores around. | Captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. |
| Mould Mite Control | Moisture only. | Starves infestations by removing their food source. |
| Hygiene Guarantee | Units often returned dirty. | Full antimicrobial sanitisation before every hire. |
| Equipment Grade | Domestic or basic trade units. | Industrial Heylo & DrizAir remediation stacks. |
Standard dehumidifiers move air, but they don’t clean it. Our units use H13 HEPA filtration to “scrub” the air while it dries, ensuring that as moisture leaves your walls, pathogens aren’t entering your lungs.
Water damage often leaves a lingering musty scent that domestic air fresheners can’t fix. Our Activated Carbon beds use adsorption to chemically trap gas molecules and VOCs, leaving your home smelling like the flood never happened.
We treat our equipment like medical devices. Every unit in the Edgehire4homes fleet undergoes a multi-point inspection and an antimicrobial wipe-down before being dispatched, ensuring we never bring someone else’s mould into your home.
